Mission & Vision

Medical Education is the mother of Health care services existing the state. The doctors are created from the new entrants in the college. The processed ‘good’ should be a high quality, sincere, dedicated and compassionate fellows. At the same time they should possess state of Art knowledge of Medicine and capable of withstanding the competition in the field. We don’t produce patient examination machines but good human beings who render necessary moral support to the patients and relatives in addition to the treatment needed.

Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH), popularly known by its historical name Mayo Hospital, is a prominent and historically significant government medical institution in Central India.

1. Establishment and History

Feature Detail
Original Hospital The site’s legacy began with the establishment of the Mayo Hospital in 1862/1863, serving as one of the oldest hospitals in Central India.
Medical School The Robertson Medical School was opened in 1914 on the same campus to impart medical education.
College Establishment The modern medical college was first established as Corporation Medical College in 1967.
Government Takeover It was subsequently transferred to the Government of Maharashtra in 1968 and renamed Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital.
Affiliation It is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Motto The institution’s motto is “अहर्निश सेवामहे” (Ahanish Sevamahe), which translates to: “(we) work day and night in service (of people).”

2. Infrastructure

The campus is strategically located in Central Nagpur, close to the railway station, and covers a substantial area of approximately 39 to 42 acres.

Academic Facilities Well-equipped lecture theatres (many with smart classroom facilities), dedicated academic buildings, specialized departmental museums (e.g., Anatomy), and demo rooms.
Laboratories Advanced laboratories are available for pre-clinical and para-clinical departments like Anatomy (Dissection Hall), Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Histology.
Library A large central library with an extensive collection of books, national and international journals, and a Digital Library section. The reading rooms are often available for students 24 hours a day.
Hostel Facilities Separate and secure hostel facilities are provided for both Undergraduate (UG) boys and girls, as well as for Postgraduate (PG) students and Interns. Newer hostel buildings are considered to have very good infrastructure for a government college.
Other Amenities The campus includes a cafeteria/canteen, an auditorium for events, gym facilities, IT infrastructure, and grounds for sports activities.
